MOTHERHOOD

It is the HIGHEST HOLIEST service assumed by humankind.
It is the definition of selfless service.
It is both a daunting responsibility and a glorious opportunity.
The divine role of motherhood is a gift from God
and
key to His plan of happiness for all of his children.

Elder M. Russell Ballard "Mothers and Daughters" April 2010

"There is nothing in this world as personal, as nurturing, or as life changing as the influence of a righteous woman."

Elder Russell M. Nelson “Our Sacred Duty to Honor Women” April 1999 Priesthood Session
1)      "Many years ago the First Presidency issued a statement that has had a profound and lasting influence upon me. “Motherhood,” they wrote, “is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind. It places her who honors its holy calling and service next to the angels.”
Because mothers are essential to God’s great plan of happiness, their sacred work is opposed by Satan, who would destroy the family and demean the worth of women."

2)     "You young men need to know that you can hardly achieve your highest potential without the influence of good women, particularly your mother and, in a few years, a good wife. Learn now to show respect and gratitude. Remember that your mother is your mother. She should not need to issue orders. Her wish, her hope, her hint should provide direction that you would honor. Thank her and express your love for her. And if she is struggling to rear you without your father, you have a double duty to honor her."

“THERE ARE FEW THINGS MORE POWERFUL THAN THE PRAYERS OF A RIGHTEOUS MOTHER.”
President Boyd K. Packer "These Things I Know" April 2013

M. Russell Ballard “Daughters of God” April 2008
3)      “There is no one perfect way to be a good mother. Each situation is unique. Each mother has different challenges, different skills and abilities, and certainly different children. The choice is different and unique for each mother and each family... What matters is that a mother loves her children deeply and, in keeping with the devotion she has for God and her husband, prioritizes them above all else.”

       4)      “First, recognize that the joy of motherhood comes in moments. There will be hard times and frustrating times. But amid the challenges, there are shining moments of joy and satisfaction.”

Elder Jeffery R. Holland “Because She is a Mother” April 1977
5)      “The very fact that you have been given such a responsibility is everlasting evidence of the trust your Father in Heaven has in you. If you and your husband will strive to love God and live the gospel yourselves; if you will plead for that guidance and comfort of the Holy Spirit promised to the faithful; if you will show others, including your children, the same caring, compassionate, forgiving heart you want heaven to show you; if you try your best to be the best parent you can be, you will have done all that a human being can do and all that God expects you to do.”

President Gordon B. Hinckley, “Standing Strong and Immovable” Worldwide Leadership Training Meeting, Jan. 10, 2004, 20.
6)      “It is so tremendously important that the women of the Church stand strong and immovable for that which is correct and proper under the plan of the Lord. …
We call upon the women of the Church to stand together for righteousness. They must begin in their own homes. They can teach it in their classes. They can voice it in their communities.”

Elder Russell M. Nelson “Salvation and Exaltation” April 2005
7)      "You are God’s agents in the care of children He has entrusted to you. Let His divine influence remain in your hearts as you teach and persuade."

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf “The Influence of Righteous Women” Liahona September 1999
8)      “We are living in a great season for all women in the Church. Sisters, you are an essential part of our Heavenly Father’s plan for eternal happiness; you are endowed with a divine birthright. You are the real builders of nations wherever you live, because strong homes of love and peace will bring security to any nation. I hope you understand that.”

9)      “Have faith and confidence in Him, and you will see miracles happen in your life and the lives of your loved ones. The virtue of your own life will be a light to those who sit in darkness, because you are a living witness of the fulness of the gospel”

Elder L. Tom Perry “Becoming Goodly Parents” October 2012
10)   "I believe it is by divine design that the role of motherhood emphasizes the nurturing and teaching of the next generation."

Elder M. Russell Ballard "Mothers and Daughters" April 2010
         11) “All women have within their divine nature both the inherent talent and the stewardship to mother.”

Elder Richard G. Scott "The Sanctity of Womanhood" April 2000
12)  “I testify that as each woman seeks it in faith and obedience, the Savior will continually prompt her through the Holy Ghost. That guidance will lead her to fulfillment, peace, and a consuming joy through magnifying her divinely appointed, sacred womanhood. I know the Savior will do that. I testify that He lives.”
Elder Richard G. Scott "The Sanctity of Womanhood" April 2000
13) “Satan has unleashed a seductive campaign to undermine the sanctity of womanhood, to deceive the daughters of God and divert them from their divine destiny. He well knows women are the compassionate, self-sacrificing, loving power that binds together the human family. He would focus their interests solely on their physical attributes and rob them of their exalting roles as wives and mothers.”

Elder Quentin L. Cook "LDS Women are Incredible" April 2011

"God placed within women divine qualities of strength, virtue, love, and the willingness to sacrifice to raise future generations of His spirit children."

"Our women are not incredible because they have managed to avoid the difficulties of life—quite the opposite. They are incredible because of the way they face the trials of life. Despite the challenges and tests life has to offer—from marriage or lack of marriage, children’s choices, poor health, lack of opportunities, and many other problems—they remain remarkably strong and immovable and true to the faith."

"No woman should ever feel the need to apologize or feel that her contribution is less significant because she is devoting her primary efforts to raising and nurturing children. Nothing could be more significant in our Father in Heaven’s plan."

Elder D. Todd Christofferson "The Moral Force of Women" October 2013
"Women bring with them into the world a certain virtue, a divine gift that makes them adept at instilling such qualities as faith, courage, empathy, and refinement in relationships and in cultures."

"A woman’s moral influence is nowhere more powerfully felt or more beneficially employed than in the home. There is no better setting for rearing the rising generation than the traditional family, where a father and a mother work in harmony to provide for, teach, and nurture their children."

Thoughts- by Becky
I am a mother. As they say I am in the "trenches" of young motherhood. Toddlers, young children, feeding, teaching, reading, disciplining, and loving all of them- all day, everyday. It is true that some days are better than others, like any other profession or calling- that is just the way that it is. I have learned some valuable truths while going over many talks and messages in regards to MOTHERHOOD that have caused me to seriously consider the importance of my role as a mother in a deeper and more clear way. It is clear that my best efforts are required as a mother to my children, and I must do all that I can to love and to teach them. The quotes that I have gathered inspire me and help me to remember who I am and WHY I am important, why ALL MOTHERS are important in the lives of their children and all over the world.
